Fearing that his past would have endangered his little girl again, Thomas/Phineas left her, disappearing from her life, sending her a check every month in order to allow her to finish her study and live a normal, albeit solitary, life before leaving, however, Horton put a transparent suit, a second skin, on Frankie, something he had developed for the original Torch, in order to suppress her powers, and left an hypnotic suggestion to make the girl be unaware of the suit. Not only that, she found out that she could actually generate flames from her body, and control them at will fearing the effects of such a trauma, Thomas, who was the creator of the original Human Torch, hypnotized his stepdaughter, and led her to forget everything that had happened, including her fiery powers. One day, while fourteen-years-old Frankie was helping Thomas moving chemicals in the lab, she fell, and she poured all over herself a substance infused with Horton Cells: she was suddenly enveloped in flames, an event that clearly traumatized her, leaving her with an acute pyrophobia… but not only she survived the experience, she even walked out of it without a single burn on her body. When Lanette died, Frankie spent all her time with her stepdad, and even helped him in his lab, a “hobby” of his. Lanette got remarried to a man who she knew as Thomas Raye, a repairman… who was actually the genius scientist Phineas Horton in disguise. Let’s take a good look.įrankie Raye was the daughter of a woman named Lanette, and of an unknown father, who abandoned his family when the baby was still little (maybe, her biological father was actually Thomas Raymond, aka Toro, who died in his superhero persona). In the comics as well she’s romantically involved with the Torch, but she’s never been part of the US Army, and her path is much more strictly linked to that of the Surfer than the movie’s version. By the end of the movie, she switches sides, helps the FF, and even starts a romantic relationship with the Human Torch. In the movie, she’s General Hager‘s second in command, and she tries to force the cooperation of the Fantastic Four in stopping the threat represented by Silver Surfer. The last character appearing in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and in the previous FF franchises, is also one of the most relevant ones: Captain Frankie Raye, portrayed by Beau Garrett.
